The Story Behind the Painting
When someone dies our relationship with them changes, it doesn’t disappear. This is what my counsellor suggested after my partner died and her words shifted my perspective on death.
Because death and grief aren’t talked about enough, we tend to fear it and assume that once someone has died, they are gone forever. But what if we changed the wording around death? What if that relationship changes from a physical one to one that is spiritual?
What if we didn’t view death as finite?
That change in wording was powerful and provided relief through the initial shock of losing him. It gave me hope and respite while I processed and shifted into the next stage of my grief.
This painting symbolizes that relational change and is a reminder that those who are no longer physically with us still hold a place in our thoughts and hearts. They will always have a place at the table.
