The Story Behind the Painting

My grief really made me realize what’s important in life. It pushed me to reflect on how I want to live. We only have one life, and I want to make the most of it. Part of that is saying, “f*ck it,” and telling people what your dreams are. Because, funnily enough, people really do want to help you achieve them.

So that’s what I did.

I shared that I wanted to collaborate with foodies, bakers, chefs, and people who create spaces for connection. That post eventually connected me with Darcy thanks to her friend who sent me a message on Instagram.

Darcy is known for hosting these elaborate dinner parties and invited my friend and me to join one. We photographed the table with its beautiful candles and Baroque-inspired fruit arrangement before everyone arrived, and then again once it was filled with incredible dishes.

I put my dream out there, and this painting is the result of that.

A huge thank you to Darcy for opening her home to two strangers, for cooking one of the best meals I’ve ever had (it was insanely good), and to all of her friends, who made us feel so welcome.

It was such a special evening, and it reminded me why I’m drawn to painting these moments around the dining table. Food has a way of bringing people together and this painting will always be a reminder of that.
